Eco-Film Series: Greenvaders

In Halton, we¬†produced about 151kg/capita in 2015. That’s about 300 pounds of garbage Greenvadersper person in one year. We’ve noticed that the only problem we seem to focus on is where to put all this garbage, and not how to reduce how much we produce.

It’s not an option for us to sit still while decisions are being made that could jeopardize our environment even more than its current state. When a town was hit with another proposed landfill plan, these citizens took action to let everyone know that they were not happy about it. Greenvaders will show you the actions these passionate citizens took while fighting for their own rights to live in a clean environment, as well as bring up the bigger issue: residents are not being held accountable for their garbage, and consumerism is leading us to create more of it every year.

Heather took the #HaltonWasteChallenge last October by pledging not to create any waste that is non-recyclable or compost. Now at the end of the challenge, she will be coming to this event to do a public weigh-in of the garbage she has accumulated over the year! She will also share her successes and struggles, with a lot of great tips for everyone (especially new moms!) to reduce their garbage!

If you haven’t already, check out her #HaltonWasteChallenge blog to catch up and see what she’s been up to since the birth of her new baby boy!

This film will also be played in Oakville on October 13th at Film.Ca (171 Speers Rd).
